Happy Halloween
Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which is a pagan celebration that marks the end of summer and the harvest season. Samhain was a time of merriment and festivals to mark the Celtic New Year, and honor ancestors. It was also a time to prepare for winter and divide the year between the lighter half of summer and the darker half of winter. People would light bonfires, wear costumes, and prepare food for the living and the dead. They also believed that the world of the Spirits was visible during Samhain, so they would wear masks to scare away those evil spirits.
We will celebrate this special time of year with costumes and treats in my classes at the Caldwell YMCA on Wednesday and Thursday...we will look for balance in our "workouts" & "Work-ins" and enjoy the playfulness and lightheartedness we create at the Y.
